It is a no brainer why having an online presence is very important if you are running a small business. It is about being visible and being searchable on search engines because let’s face it… if you are not a big name brand you will need to get your brand out there and what better way to do that than having an online presence?
If you have a strong social media presence and think that is enough for your brand, think again. You do not own social media. You can easily lose access to your account and this has happened many times for numerous reasons. You have no idea how easy it is to lose access to your social media account (as easy as having one jealous rival reporting your account to facebook!). I have heard many stories of friends about being blocked from accessing their accounts and for normal people this is not a big deal but for business people this means losing potential clients and businesses.
Apart from that, there are other reasons why you should take your business to the next level and own a website.
1. First Impression
First impression is very important. The first thing people would do if they don’t know about you is Google you. Having a website or a landing page helps give a first impression that says you are a ‘legit’ business. Beginning with your website potential customers will decide whether they should hire you or buy your product or not.
2. Testimonials
Here’s something that I would do if I want to know about a particular company or product. I would read the testimonials. The best way to get testimonials is to get people to review your product and the best way to get people access to these testimonials is by putting all of them on your website for people to browse through. It doesn’t have to be in written text… It can be photos of your events or whatever services you are providing. Looking at or reading these testimonials will build a strong understanding for you brand / services / products. This will help potential customers make up their minds about your products. So it’s kind of like the next level of ‘window shopping’.
3. No website means losing business.
By now it’s clear that if you don’t have a website, you’re missing out on opportunities for customers to identify who you are and if they want to spend money with you. This said, if you have a bad website it is better to have no website. While no website equals missed opportunities, a bad website can actually be worse since it literally makes your business look bad. With so many template based websites available nowadays, such as Shopify.com, for you to customize for your unique business, there’s truly no excuse for your website to look unprofessional and sloppy. If you can’t proudly promote the website you have currently live and available for the world to see online, take it down. A bad website is far worse than no website – but let’s be clear… both are bad for business. (Source : Forbes)
A website is also a form of low-cost advertising. You won’t be a direct and instant hit on the internet but it will be, in the long run, a very sensible marketing investment for every business owners.
